Board Committees

Board Committees

Much of the work of the Board is conducted through the following committees. As needed, trustees may also serve on task forces and school administration committees such as the Intercultural Affairs and Equity Committee and the Academic Affairs Committee.

The Executive Committee
Chair: Eddy Yager

The Executive Committee consists of the Board's officers, the Head of School, and any additional trustees designated by the Chair. This committee coordinates the work of the Board, and meets in advance of Board meetings to plan the Board's agendas. The committee also serves as the Board's Head Support and Evaluation Committee. It serves as a sounding board for the Head, and works with the Head to develop annual objectives for the Head, and to evaluate the Head's achievement of those objectives.

The Committee on Trustees
Chair: Laura Anderson

The Committee on Trustees selects and nominates candidates for Board membership, as well as for Board officer positions. This committee also works with the Board Chair to develop a calendar of Board activities, including a trustee orientation program, and Board work sessions and training events. The committee also conducts an annual survey of Board members to evaluate the performance of the Board and the Board Chair. Finally, it assists the Board Chair in managing the operation of the Board.

The Finance Committee
Chair: Steve Baldwin

The Finance Committee oversees the fiscal management of the school. While day-to-day financial operations are the responsibility of the Head, the Finance Committee works closely with the Head and Green Hedges' Business Manager to develop an annual budget for the School. Each January, the Finance Committee submits a proposed budget for the following fiscal year to the Board, which is responsible for approving an annual budget. This committee also works with independent financial accountants to review the School's annual audit.

The Development Committee
Chair: Kelly Baxter

The Development Committee works with the Development Director to oversee the School's development program, including fundraising and community outreach activities. The committee coordinates activities such as the Auction and the Annual Giving Campaign, and also works with the Development Director and Green Hedges' Parent Teacher Organization to promote events such as Green Hedges Nights at local restaurants. The Development Committee includes non-trustees.

The Buildings and Grounds Committee
Chair: Prem Pillai

The Buildings and Grounds Committee oversees the management of the School's facilities. In addition to ensuring that these facilities are safe and meet all applicable codes, the committee oversees implementation of the School's Master Plan, which incorporates a vision for the long-term improvement of the School's facilities, developed in accordance with the Strategic Plan. The Buildings and Grounds Committee includes non-trustees.

Strategic Planning Task Force
Chair: Stu Work

This committee is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the School's strategic plan. The Green Hedges Strategic Plan, which was approved by the Board in 2004, sets out specific goals and objectives for the school over a five-year period. The plan preserves the essential core of Green Hedges, while assuring the School's continued healthy growth and development.
