Parents may enroll their child for the entire year or customize their child’s schedule on a drop in basis. The Extended Day program is divided into three components shown below in the fees schedule. In its approach, the program strives to be an extension of each child’s experience as a GHS student.

12 noon to 3:30 p.m.
The Extended Day program from 12 noon – 3:30 offers students, who are not yet age-eligible (as defined by the Commonwealth of Virginia) for our Montessori Kindergarten program, the opportunity to continue their learning experience in the afternoon. This program is designed to extend the learning day and to vertically align the afternoon curriculum with the educational, social, and emotional developmental needs of our youngest students. The program provides a structured educational environment where theme-based learning, literature, art, creative play, and music activities foster growth and development following a similar structure to the morning Montessori program.
3:30 to 6:00 p.m.
Green Hedges also offers an Extended Day Program for all students from 3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. This program is responsive to the varying tempo of the afternoon, and thus offers a broad range of activities including a supervised study hall, indoor/outdoor play, and the opportunity to join clubs, and participate in sports programs.
Extended Day programs from 12 noon – 6:00 p.m. are available for a limited number of registered students on days when general dismissal occurs at 12 noon. Homework supervision and quiet educational and play activities are provided.
