Don't miss out on the biggest social and fundraising event of the year! The 2012 Gala-Auction is set for Friday, March 9 at The Atrium at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens. This year's event will feature a cocktail-party atmosphere with butlered hors d'oeuvres and desserts in addition to sumptuous food stations. All community members are encouraged to attend, and are welcome to bring extended family and/or friends.

Skate Night - New Location and Day!

Join us on Friday, January 27 for the PTO-sponsored Skate Night. We've moved the event to Reston SkateQuest and to a Friday night so there are no worries about getting up for school the next morning. Skating and rentals are on us, and there is a snack bar on the premises. Bring the whole family for a fun evening with friends.

GHS Winter Concert

The students are excited to perform for the community at this year's festive Winter Concert scheduled for Thursday, December 15 at 7 pm. All students MFD - G8 participate in the event. Students are to follow the "Formal Uniform Dress Day" guidelines which can be found on p. 28 on the handbook. Please be on the look-out for more details from Mrs. Lowery this week.

Treat yourself or stow away presents for the holidays or birthdays - there's a wide selection of books, audiobooks, eBooks, movies, music and more! Can't make it to the event? 7 - 8 pm: GHS Jazz Band performs

GHS Jazz Band to play at 7:20 pm on the main stage right outside The Freeman Store. Enjoy an old fashioned Holiday Stroll down Church Street in Vienna with friends from GHS from 6 - 8 pm. Town activities include a petting zoo, s’more making stations, a miniature train exhibit, visits with Santa, lighting of the town Christmas tree and even a performance from our very own Jazz Band. Fun for the whole family!

We are excited to welcome acclaimed author, Candace Fleming, to school on Wednesday, November 16. Ms. Fleming has written more than 20 books for children, including the winning biography, The Lincolns, the best-selling picture book, Muncha! Muncha! Muncha!, and the beloved Boxes for Katie.
On Nov. 16, Ms. Fleming will meet with students MFD - G8 and will be available for book signing in the library from 11:30 am - 12:15 pm.

Town of Vienna Community Clean-Up

GHS is joining forces with the Town of Vienna for the annual Town Cleanup Day, sponsored by Vienna’s Community Enhancement Commission. All families are invited to join in the fun as we work together to make Vienna a more beautiful place! All ages welcome.

Vienna Town Cleanup Day is a wonderful opportunity for Green Hedges children, siblings, and parents to serve together!
Green Hedges has been assigned Peterson Lane Park, on Malcolm Road, just 5 blocks from the school. We will gather at the park beginning at 8:45am. Gloves and bags will be provided but this is a ‘bring your own rake’ party!
Families of all ages welcome. Whether you can volunteer for a half hour, one hour, or two hours your time and care for our Vienna community is greatly appreciated! The PTO will be providing light refreshments so please RSVP to Carolyn Wood at cwood@greenhedges.org for this event to ensure an accurate volunteer count.
Also, remember to proudly wear your green and white showing a Green Hedges team effort in making Vienna a more beautiful place!

Looking for something fun to do on the upcoming half-day Friday? Join your GHS friends for the afternoon at Chuck E. Cheese located at 2465 Centreville Road # J9 in Herndon. Last year, we basically had the place to ourselves! Students will receive a sticker for free tokens at Friday’s dismissal, so head on over with fellow GHSers for an afternoon that’s a treat for the kids and fun for the adults too! 15% of all the afternoon proceeds will be donated to the GHS PTO. Each year, the graduating class raises important funds to present the School with a class gift upon their graduation. Last year, the Class of 2011 donated over $3,000 to the GHS band program to be used to purchase new instruments, sheet music, equipment, etc. On average, classes have raised anywhere from $3,000 - $5,000, but the class needs your help to reach their goal!
The Class of 2012 will be selling poinsettias from Nov 4 – 15. Delivery is scheduled for Thursday, December 1 – just in time for the holidays! In the past, the quality of the poinsettias has always exceeded expectations – they’re gorgeous! Available in 3 sizes and 4 colors options. Questions? Rain or Shine! We’ll be rockin’ to the beat in the Vienna Halloween Parade. Show your GHS spirit! Join us at spot #42 along Berry Street starting at 6 pm.
Are you ready to boogie and swing your way down Maple Avenue with all of your Green Hedges' friends? Do you have your 50s, Hippie, Disco or 80s costume all ready to go? Or maybe you've decided to strut yourself in a Dragon Costume along side of Percival, who is making a special appearance! If so, join us on Wednesday 10/26 at 6:00 p.m., SPOT #42, LOCATED ON BERRY STREET (Parade will start marching at 7:00 pm). The PTO is providing green glow sticks so that we can light it up as we "Rock Around the Decades" with the Jazz Band. All are welcome - even little ones in strollers! Hope to see everyone there!
