It all started innocently enough. A mother checking out a new school for her three children, noticing the home-like atmosphere of the campus, wanting a reasonable commute. But soon, the enthusiastic Ms. Nichols, whose work with children in DC had previously led her to pursuing a Master of Education degree from Marymount University and working at the Ambleside School in Herndon for six years, noticed the positive experiences that her sons were having at Green Hedges, and applied for a Montessori Assistant position that had become available. Once on the job, she worked toward certification in teaching the Montessori method, and for the past three and a half years, Ms. Nichols has been a Head Montessori Teacher. “The philosophy really clicked for me,” she says, “it’s all about observing children and tuning in to what will be the best next thing for their learning.” By now Ms. Nichols has one Green Hedges graduate and two sons in Middle School. She, however, is happiest staying in Montessori, with regular breaks for her other two passions, reading and skiing.
