Angelika (Ana) Kirkland, Art

“When I got a sense of the small school atmosphere here and experienced the friendliness and curiosity of the students, I was so impressed that I knew I wanted to work here,” remembers Ana Kirkland about her first walk through the school, four years ago. She was born and raised in Berlin, and lived in the Netherlands before coming to this area, where she earned an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts from UMBC and a Master of Digital Art degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. She worked in her son Ian’s former school as a GRACE Art volunteer. Inspired, she decided to pursue a teaching certificate and embark on a career in education. Her own creative pursuits include acrylic painting, which has been her long-time passion, and a newer interest, making pottery using the wheel method. She also has a part-time graphic design business. A marathon runner, she brought the Girls on the Run program for grades 3 through 5 to Green Hedges. Her younger children, Ian and Elli, are in Grade 5 and Grade 1 at Green Hedges. Her oldest son, Olin, is a senior at Oakton High School.
