Annie Monique Melton

Annie Monique Melton, Lower School French
French teacher to the youngest Green Hedges students, Montessori Half Day through Grade 3, Ms. Melton had always wanted to be involved in education. She was born in the Bordeaux region of France, received a Baccalaureate in Philosophy, and came to the United States to study English at California State Polytechnic University. Her original dream had been to teach English in France, never imagining the inverse situation. However, she married an American and stayed in the US, living in a variety of interesting places, including a house overlooking the majestic Coulee Dam. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Education with a major in French from the University of Washington, Ms. Melton moved to this area and serendipitously became involved in diplomatic circles, working first for the Embassy of Zaire and then for the office of the French Military Attache. After twenty years in these positions, she saw the opportunity to return to her first love, teaching, working in the language immersion program of the Rock Creek International School before coming to Green Hedges four years ago. Ms. Melton enjoys Green Hedges School because, as she says, “It has a soul.”
