Camila Morales, Montessori Assistant & Extended Day
A recent encounter with Camila Morales, who is studying child psychology with a view toward graduate education in that or a related field, found her carrying a stack of books about turtles, having just donated her own turtle to the Montessori classroom where she serves as Assistant. It is this balance of practical experience and academic learning, and the enthusiasm for both, that characterize Ms. Morales. A native of Puerto Rico who grew up in Vienna, she initially joined Green Hedges last year as an Extended Day Assistant, but shortly thereafter became Ms. Nichol’s assistant. Ms. Morales attended UVA, where she received a Distinguished Major in Cultural Anthropology and Studio Art, with a Minor in Art History. Employment in a DC law firm left her yearning for work that was more personally meaningful, and she is finding that meaning in her work with children. Her community service experience includes after school tutoring, food and clothing distribution in Tijuana, Mexico, and more recently, rape crisis counseling, for which she received certification.
