Catherine Voeks, Director of Development

Director of Development Cathy Voeks has lived in the Washington, DC area a long time, but her roots reach into faraway places. She grew up in Connecticut as a first generation American to Dutch parents, and her mother grew up in Indonesia. Some sort of magic happened for the young Catherine in third grade: her admiration for her teacher made her decide that she, too, would grow up to be a third grade teacher. And so, she grew up to do just that, after earning a BA in Elementary Education from American University and an M. Ed. from Johns Hopkins University. For eleven years she taught in the Montgomery County Public Schools, before working as an adjunct professor at American University involved with teacher training, eventually taking a break from employment to start a family. While her two sons, now 13 and 11 years old, attended Lake Anne Nursery Kindergarten, Ms. Voeks volunteered in many capacities, ultimately becoming Board Chair. In that role she cultivated an interest in development, and when her children began attending full days of school, Ms. Voeks began her second career, in Development. Now in her fourth year at Green Hedges, she answers a query regarding her seemingly endless energy and goodwill by saying, “I really like what I do. It gives me a sense of accomplishment to help the School fulfill its vision for the future.”
