Deb Haag, Assistant Head of School
Assistant Head of School and Director of Studies, Deborah Haag listens for the sound of children’s voices in the hallway outside the open door to her office and delights in the gentle cacophony. After 32 years in education, 24 of them at the Friends School of Baltimore, where she filled myriad roles, including teacher, grade-level team coordinator, lower school math department chair and testing coordinator, member of the Board of Trustees, and Lower School Assistant Principal, Ms. Haag still considers all aspects of education her passion. She is in her third year at Green Hedges, where along with serving as Director of Studies she also teaches Grade 6 Math and is a member of a Middle School Grade-Level Advisory Team. Ms. Haag received Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from Towson University. Her Master’s thesis focused on the emotional component of learning to read, and her earliest teaching experiences were as a bedside teacher to severely ill children. She is the daughter of two dedicated educators and, herself an avid student, is pursuing a third degree in Children at Risk. “I never burn out,” she says. On the contrary, she is on fire with enthusiasm, knowledge, and warmth.
