Gretchen Komnik, Montessori Assistant & Technology Assistant

Sometime during premed studies Gretchen Komnik realized that despite her decision to carve out a career path different than that of her grandmothers, mother, and aunt, all of whom were teachers, what made her happiest was spending time with children. She supplemented her studies at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA, with classes in education at a nearby university, and thus was able to receive a teaching degree. After moving to DC where she met her husband, Mark, she taught at the Langley School for six years, and then came to Green Hedges, where she taught Grade 3 for nine years and has worked as a Montessori Assistant for two. She has also coached GHS basketball and assisted with Girls on the Run. Along the way, she has developed passions and skills in photography, technology, and children’s literature. Outside the classroom, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their daughters Molly, age 2, and Kiley, age 7, a GHS student. In addition, she makes time to pursue her own learning by working on a Master of Education degree, exploring the social foundations of education at the University of Virginia’s Northern Virginia campus.
