Jennifer Clegg, Middle School Humanities

With the persistence of a long distance runner and the experience of an instructor to children and to other teachers, Jennifer Clegg sparkles with the excitement of helping people learn. Her career began in the Boston public school system, where after six years of teaching Middle School she became an Educational Consultant and Professional Development Facilitator, a position that entailed helping teachers to teach more effectively. She has been a Math and Language Curriculum Specialist, and a private academic tutor. Now, taking the newly defined role of Humanities teacher at Green Hedges, she is teaching Social Studies and English to Grades 6, 7, and 8, and teaming with Micheline Woolard as a grade-level advisor for Grade 6.

If Ms. Clegg looks familiar despite being a new member of the faculty, that is because she is no stranger to Green Hedges, having spent the past year tutoring students here in a variety of academic areas and supporting them in preparation for high school entrance exams. She also grew up here, in Vienna, attending local schools and doing her student teaching at nearby Thoreau and Marshall Schools.

Naming the aspects of teaching at Green Hedges that she most enjoys, Ms. Clegg cites the small class size that enables each student to get the most out of the learning environment, and the joy of integrating the arts in all subject areas, such as teaching history through the literature relevant to each time period.
