Micheline Woolard

Micheline Woolard, Lower School French & Latin, Middle School French

Madame Woolard, as this devoted French Canadian is known to her students, has been at GHS since ’91 with a 2 year break, teaching French and Latin at various times. She might have been a few things other than a French teacher, it turns out. Her outstanding aptitude for math received the notice of her high school peers, who benefited from study sessions with the young Micheline. Perhaps that marked the beginning of Madame Woolard’s interest in teaching, but the business world also called. Her father owned one music store in Montreal and opened a second. Running that second store occupied much of Madame’s free time while she was in college. But still, her love of languages called. Having learned Latin while studying the cours classique during her Jesuit education, Madame Woolard decided to take German at the Goethe Institute in Montreal, winning a scholarship to study in Germany, where she met her husband, Bob. Micheline left Montreal for Topeka, Kansas where she got married. There she enrolled in the nearby Kansas University where she became Assistant Professor teaching French at Kansas University while pursuing a Master’s degree there in French Literature. After a few years raising a family, Micheline returned to teaching. She began teaching French to Montessori students and eventually to students up to Grade 5. Micheline communicated her love of teaching to her daughters, who are both teachers now. Although she and her husband have stopped going on sailing adventures, she still enjoys being on the water and also enjoys biking, reading, playing games (especially Bridge), and loves skiing at Le Massif and Mont Tremblant in Quebec.
