Padmini Gunasinghe, Montessori Assistant

Known as “Paddi” to her friends and colleagues, Ms. Padmini Gunasinghe left her native Sri Lanka in 1983 in order to allow her husband to complete his PhD studies in programs in the United States. Having taught in Sri Lanka for six years and earned a certificate for teaching Kindergarten there, she came to Green Hedges eleven years ago to work in the After School and Extended Day programs. At that time, her son, Meth, now a student at James Madison University, was attending Green Hedges School. She is Montessori Assistant to Rena Balestrieri and enjoys fostering connections between the youngest and oldest students, within the classroom and within the school. Ms. Gunasinghe also has two daughters, the oldest is an account director for an advertising agency, and the youngest, who has substitute taught at Green Hedges is now a 7th grade science teacher. Her newest role is that of grandmother to an adorable baby boy. “I love watching them grow,” she says about all the children in her life.
