Fourteen years into teaching the youngest children at Green Hedges, Rena Balestrieri exclaims, “Now some of them are driving!” Ms. Balestrieri is, herself, one of eight children and a twin. She graduated with a BS in Social Psychology and minor in Math from George Mason University after studies that included time at Eastern Mennonite University and the University of Tel Aviv. Ms. Balestrieri began her work at Green Hedges in the Extended Day Program, subsequently becoming a Montessori Assistant. She went on to earn a degree in Early Childhood Montessori Education from the Barrie School’s Institute for Advanced Montessori Studies, and what she loves most about her class is that “the program is always evolving. Students can be in Montessori for three years, and we keep pace with them as they develop and change.”
