Like most independent schools, Green Hedges’ operating expenses exceed the revenue from tuition and fees. As a non-profit, independent educational institution, we depend on our parents, alumni, and friends for voluntary support. Your participation encourages others to give and sends a message to the community that Green Hedges makes a difference. The School values and appreciates all gifts – regardless of size.

The Annual Fund provides the vital difference between what is ordinary and what is distinctive about the GHS experience.

The Annual Fund is the cornerstone of all fundraising programs at Green Hedges and is critical to maintaining the strong academic programs for which the School is known. Simply put, your financial contribution provides direct funding for educational initiatives that tuition alone does not cover. A donation to the Annual Fund is the most important way to give because it directly supports Green Hedges’ students and faculty.

The Annual Fund goal for the 2011-12 school year is $120,000. When Green Hedges meets its annual fund-raising goal, important programs can continue to flourish, faculty salaries can remain competitive, and the school can continue to meet the needs of its operating budget. Annual Fund gifts tax-deductible and are allocated within the fiscal year they are received.

Matching Gift Programs

Many organizations offer matching gift programs that support K-12 schools. Please check with your employer to see if they will match your gift. This is a great way to leverage the impact of your support by doubling or even tripling your contribution! If your company is eligible, request a matching gift form from your employer and send it completed and signed to the Development Office. We will do the rest. Some companies match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses too. Green Hedges School is also an accepted “write-in” agency for the United Way of the National Capital Area.

The Montessori environment allows our daughter to grow mentally, academically, and socially to her highest potential, all the while nurturing her own intellectual curiosity. We choose to support GHS financially because every dollar is an investment in our children’s future.

After twelve years at GHS, we continue to be excited about the school because the academic program is so strong and we believe it is second to none in the Washington metro region. GHS teachers have inspired our kids to learn, compete and push themselves to set and achieve great academic and athletic goal . . . We’ve seen up close and personal the empowering and exceptionally positive impact GHS teachers and school leadership have had on our kids and countless other students we’ve come to know and love. These days higher charitable giving is harder than ever to prioritize but we believe so strongly in the gift of a GHS education that we find ways to give as much as we can to support the school year after year.
