Welcome to Green Hedges School, home to 175 students, ages 3-5 (our Montessori Preschool and Kindergarten Program) through Preparatory Grades 1–8. The moment you step on to our 5-acre campus nestled in the Historic Windover Heights residential neighborhood of Vienna, Virginia, you will feel the energy and warmth found in a diverse community of children and adults. For 75 years, our School has remained true to the founding principles of our founders, Frances and Kenton Kilmer, to provide a school experience that emphasizes core academic subjects, world languages, the arts and athletics, while supporting the healthy intellectual, social, and emotional growth of our students. The result is a dynamic school environment in which preschool, elementary and middle school children thrive.
Our most recent VAIS accreditation report remarked, “There is congruence between the stated mission of the school and the actual program of the school as evidenced by the entire Green Hedges School community. A balance between academics and the arts and a whole child approach permeates the school culture.” Our robust academic curriculum and outstanding faculty prepare children for success at the next level of schooling, and teach them to be life-long learners, ask questions, take risks, respect others, and be resilient in an increasingly complex world. Area secondary schools know our graduates to be confident, accomplished, intellectually curious, and kind.
I hope you will take a moment to read our Mission Statement, Core Values and Philosophy and will then explore the wealth of information about our school on this website. The best way to understand the essence of our school, however, is to visit our campus on the corner of Windover Avenue and Nutley Street. Please come by and experience what makes Green Hedges School distinct.
