Belong, Become, Impact.

By: Kyle J. Armstrong, Head of School

Every opening day is a special one, but this year is extra special for me. Not only am I honored to begin this school year with the Green Hedges community, but, on a personal note, my oldest daughter is starting her first professional job as a middle school Spanish teacher at a local independent school. Having my daughter join the teaching profession marks four consecutive generations of educators in my family; it is truly a moment for which I am grateful.

As I reflect on the role education has played in my family life, I am reminded that educators are truly in the life-changing business. Here at Green Hedges, we have an extraordinary opportunity to teach students how to read, how to resolve conflicts, how to move numbers around, how to apologize, how to celebrate, how to walk in a line, how to lead, how to communicate, and the list goes on.

Working in a school is not a job–it’s a vocation. It’s a calling of the highest order. We have an enormous responsibility to prepare our students for the future, and, after a couple of months on campus, it is clear to me that our educators at Green Hedges genuinely embrace this opportunity.

Green Hedges Faculty & Staff 2026

That sense of purpose was reinforced during our week of in-service meetings, which concluded last Friday. It was inspiring to hear our faculty present the results of the three Parent Association grants, plan curriculum, discuss events, and establish norms for the year ahead. I left those conversations energized, and there is no doubt that our faculty are poised to ensure that every student feels seen, heard, and valued.

Finally, after a generative dialogue with the Leadership Team and feedback from our eighth graders, this year’s theme is:

Belong, Become, Impact.

Belonging gives us confidence, becoming shapes who we are, and that growth empowers us to impact others. Please join me in embracing this year’s theme!
