From the moment you step onto the Green Hedges campus, you will witness the strong sense of community that exists here. We provide children a safe, secure environment while maintaining a commitment to the charming, family-friendly community so often found in a neighborhood school.
“Community and communication play a deep role in education,” says Director of Communications & Marketing Reka Keller, reflecting on the importance and joy of nurturing the web of relationships at Green Hedges. “I aspire to publicize the opportunities that bring our community together, and to ensure that what we are communicating to the public feels authentic to what our school really is, to the heart of the school. There is such a good heart in the school, such a clear sense of what education means.”
Reflecting on life experiences that have shaped her sincere passion for education, youth, service, and community, Ms. Keller counts her experience as a first generation in her Hungarian-American family of origin; being the first high school student in her school district to serve on its Board of Education; and leadership positions with Project Jumpstart, whose mission is to improve kindergarten readiness for all children. She holds a BA in Elementary Education from American University with a minor in Literature and has taught most recently preschool and elementary age students.
Ms. Keller came to Green Hedges from Little Folks School, where she served as Director of Communications and Enrollment. At Green Hedges, she values the early childhood to Grade 8 trajectory, saying “students engage in creative inquiry across subject areas and developmental tasks, and do it in the context of significant relationships. To know you have such a special place in a school, that you are valued so deeply… our students have that to carry forward.”
An avid reader, Ms. Keller enjoys book clubs, writing, being outdoors, traveling, and spending time with family cooking and baking when she’s not at Green Hedges.
