Carl Hutzler

IT Administrator

Carl is the founder of an information technology implementation and operations firm, serving small and medium sized clients across the Washington DC region. Mr. Hutzler joined Green Hedges School in the spring of 2010.

Carl is a key member of NOVA Labs, a makerspace in Reston, Virginia, and he is a co-producer of Maker Faire NoVa which is the major maker faire in the Washington DC region, bringing together more than 5,000 people from across the mid-atlantic region. The 2018 Faire will be the fifth annual and takes place each spring in March.

Carl also serves on the Community IT Innovators Board of Directors. For Carl, Community IT serves a critical role in providing cutting edge technology solutions to a typically underserved segment of society, nonprofit organizations.

Previously, Carl worked at America Online (AOL) in the Systems Operations team running AOL’s email system and was the Director of Anti-Spam Operations for several years. During his tenure with AOL, Carl was a founding member of the MAAWG antispam working group and served on their board of directors. Carl also lead a team of IETF engineers, authoring the Internet standard “Email Submission Between Independent Networks” (RFC 5068). Previously Carl was a telecom engineer with Booz • Allen & Hamilton designing cabling and infrastructure systems for large government clients.

Carl is also a professional photographer and works with a number of commercial clients in the Washington DC area. Carl’s photography focuses on commercial interiors and landscapes. Carl also enjoys the outdoors and tries to do as many backpacking expeditions and ski trips as his schedule (and family) will allow.

Mr. Hutzler has excellent verbal skills, writing skills, teaching skills, and he works extremely well with others.
