Yolande Christie

French - Montessori and Lower School

For over 25 years, Yolande Christie’s life has been intertwined with that of Green Hedges. Currently teaching French to students in Montessori Half Day through Grade 2, she began working at the school as a French and Spanish teacher. Although she has spent a few years away from the school when her family lived in Spain and when she taught French elsewhere, she has always returned to GHS. Mrs. Christie also knows Green Hedges from another perspective, being the mother of two alumni of the school, both “lifers.” Reflecting on her experiences over the years, she says, “I love Green Hedges for the recognition it gives to the importance of early language learning and the arts, and for the love of learning that children acquire here. It feels like another home to me.”

Mrs. Christie was born in Versailles, France, and, after earning a Baccalaureate B degree in Economics and Foreign Languages (English and Spanish), earned a BTS degree in Trilingual Administration (French, English, and Spanish) from the Ecole Supèrieure de Secretariat et de Langues in Paris, as well as a Diploma in Business Communication from the British Chamber of Commerce. Having taught all grade levels and taught foreign languages to adults, she enjoys her time with the youngest Green Hedges students because “they are so excited to learn, they are not self-conscious about acquiring a new language, and so much of the learning happens through gestures, games, songs, and rhymes. It is a lot of fun.”
