Aaron Cahn

Interim Assistant Head of School, Middle School Head & Middle School Learning Specialist

Like a fine chef, Aaron Cahn relishes combining the multiple ingredients of his Green Hedges work. As English and Math educator, as well as Middle School Head and Learning Specialist Lead, he says: “Affecting individual children while creating processes and systems for maximizing the support all students receive, thinking about my classroom and thinking about things bigger than my classroom–I get excited about that! And,” he continues, “it also goes back further. My mother was named Teacher of the Year in Louisiana for her work with disenfranchised students. She changed lives, and I saw her do it with fidelity and success. I know it can be done.”

Working and serving in the community, and living the immediacy of relationships while holding the perspective of systems, are hallmarks of Mr. Cahn’s approach. In college, he participated in the CIVICUS Living and Learning service program at the University of Maryland. Later, he earned an M.A. in Education, and Elementary and Special Education, from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA, and completed the Indiana University Urban Principal Program in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Before coming to Green Hedges, Mr. Cahn worked at the Maret School in D.C., and in leadership positions at community service and non-profit organizations. “Along the way, I learned to think more articulately about diversity in all its aspects,” he says, describing his passion for equity and inclusion.

Mr. Cahn loves cooking and playing board games like Settlers of Cattan. His family includes two sons, one of whom is an aspiring chef.
