From the moment you step onto the Green Hedges campus, you will witness the strong sense of community that exists here. We provide children a safe, secure environment while maintaining a commitment to the charming, family-friendly community so often found in a neighborhood school.
After a long career working in various aspects of accounting for corporations and as Associate Controller for Northern Virginia Community College, Director of Finance and Operations Tan Nguyen arrived at Green Hedges as a homecoming to the earliest family values he learned. “Devotion to education has always had an important part in our family life,” he says. “We were taught to value education and saw our parents sacrifice resources to ensure that they and their children had learning opportunities.” When Mr. Nguyen’s extended family found refuge in the United States at the end of the VietNam War, the philosophy of offering service traveled with them. “Children are the future leaders of society, and we want to offer them guidance and wisdom,” he says.
A three-season athlete in high school, Mr. Nguyen played soccer, wrestled, and played rugby. He took an accounting course in high school, which he found interesting and a good match for his sense of competence. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from The Catholic University of America, he obtained a Master of Science degree in Accounting and Information Technology from the University of Maryland, University College.
At Green Hedges, Mr. Nguyen enjoys an expanded sense of responsibility: “I am putting on a lot more hats,” he says, alluding to his work with campus operations and safety, developing a relationship with the Board of Trustees, Finance Committee, and the Buildings and Grounds Committee along with the more traditional accounting work.
Mr. Nguyen and his wife have three sons and a very social dog named Meli, who hopes to meet other Green Hedges dogs.
